Premier League preview: Luton vs West Ham
Luton’s first game at Kenilworth Road this season ended in victory for the hosts; the Hatters saw off Gillingham in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.
You’d think Rob Edwards’ side will face a tougher challenge for their first home Premier League match of the campaign, however.
Carlton Morris to step up for the hosts?
Still looking for their first point, Luton welcome a West Ham side that currently sit second in the league table, having beaten Chelsea and Brighton in the last couple of weeks.
Maybe home advantage can make the difference against the Irons? Given these sides haven’t met in almost 30 years, there’s probably not much to be gleaned from historical encounters. For what it’s worth, their last meeting was an FA Cup tie back in March 1994 – which the Hatters won 3-2.
It’s probably more relevant that Luton have shipped seven goals in their first two league games this season – and even conceded twice against League Two side Gillingham earlier this week.
West Ham have won their last two games 3-1, with the side currently in a positive, even free-scoring mindset.
Still, the east London side have also conceded in all their games in this campaign so far, which gives the hosts some cause for optimism. Could Carlton Morris step up again on Friday night for Luton?
Morris converted a penalty against Brighton in Luton’s opening game, and scored 20 goals for this side in the Championship last season; he is 49/20 to find the net on Friday.
But if Morris can be the hero for the hosts, maybe Jarrod Bowen is set to impress for the visitors once more. The 26-year-old has two goals in two away games this campaign, and may well be capable of penetrating Luton’s defense. Bowen is 5/2 to score on Friday.
