Premier League preview: Man Utd vs Chelsea
Man United are well positioned for Champions League football next season – but it’s not in the bag just yet.
That means Erik ten Hag’s side come into this game with plenty of motivation – and the Red Devils are in good form, too.
They’ve won their last two outings, and are unbeaten in their last 16 league games at Old Trafford – winning their last four home games without conceding a goal.
United are an unyielding force on home turf, then. Meanwhile, it’s not telling any tales out of school to suggest that Chelsea have failed to show much improvement since Frank Lampard’s arrival.
Lamps has managed one win since returning to west London as interim manager. Whatever happens in his final two games in charge, Chelsea will be finishing in the bottom half of the league table.
The visitors will be doing very well to get anything out of Thursday’s match, then. Each of the last five meetings between these sides have ended in draws however, and United only need a point to make certain of Champions League football. Still, given Chelsea’s struggles, the home win still seems overwhelmingly likely.
They’ve improved in recent weeks, but Lampard’s side have generally not been great at finding the net. So backing Man Utd to win and BTTS No in a double at 7/4 seems like it could work out.
Alternatively, backing under 2.5 goals at 27/20 is another option – and one that would have paid off in United’s last four home games.
