Premier League preview: Man Utd vs Leeds

So, it’s marching orders for Jesse Marsch. The Leeds manager was sacked on Monday, after his team stumbled to defeat against Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

Backroom staff Michael Skubala, Paco Gallardo and Chris Armas are set to take the reins temporarily while Leeds look for a longterm replacement for Marsch. With the man dubbed “Yank Lampard” out of the picture, is there much chance of an Everton-style revival for the visitors to Old Trafford this Wednesday?

That would be a neat trick. It’s now seven league matches without a win for the Yorkshire side. Meanwhile, Manchester United are running pretty smoothly under Erik ten Hag, who’s handled a few difficult moments since joining the Manchester team – and come out smelling of roses.

United trail second place Man City by just three points, and look to be genuine contenders in this title race. Especially given both Arsenal and City dropped points at the weekend. And right now, City have other problems, of course…

Never mind all that though; right now, it’s about Leeds. And Man Utd are not a team that tend to slip up on home turf. After a shaky start to the season, the Red Devils have won their last six league games at home, seeing off City in that run; they also beat Arsenal at OT earlier this season.

The excellent Casemiro was sent off for Man Utd this weekend and will play no role in Wednesday’s game. But even without the Brazilian, it’s difficult to see Leeds bamboozling the hosts.

Is there any good news for the Yorkshire team? Well, they can try to take inspiration from their visit to Anfield earlier in this campaign, where they claimed an unlikely victory over Klopp’s men.

That was back in October, and Leeds have only won one other league game since then (against Bournemouth).

Back United to win and Marcus Rashford to score in a double at 17/10. Rashford’s irresistible form continues; the England striker scoring against Crystal Palace at the weekend for his 11th goal in his last 13 appearances.

That’s six in seven league games. And Rashford will surely get chance to add to that haul on Wednesday.
