Premier League preview: Newcastle vs Brighton betting
Fresh from ending Arsenal’s faint hopes of landing the Premier League this weekend, now Brighton turn their attention to annoying the bejesus out of Newcastle.
Both these sides are eying European football next season; Newcastle are on course for the Champions League. Meanwhile, Brighton have every chance of landing a slot in the Europa League.
The Magpies have dropped points recently
But the Magpies have dropped points in their last two outings, losing to Arsenal at St James Park and then drawing against Leeds at Elland Road at the weekend.
Eddie Howe will want to get his team back on the winning track against Brighton, who have blown hot and cold lately. Thing is, when the Seagulls are hot, they’re incandescent.
Roberto De Zerbi’s team smashed Wolves 6-0 at the end of April. They were excellent as they beat the Gunners 3-0 on Sunday, too. But vexingly, Brighton were also beaten 5-1 by Everton a few weeks ago, so the south coast side are clearly capable of having an off-day.
Newcastle have been especially impressive on home territory this season, losing at St James Park just twice (to Arsenal and Liverpool). So is this one all set up for a classic, two teams desperate to stamp their authority on the other?
Perhaps, though when these two sides met in the reverse fixture back in August, it ended goalless. That was under Graham Potter of course; since De Zerbi’s arrival, the south coast side generally haven’t had issues finding the net.
Callum Wilson has ten goals in nine matches
This one should surely feature at least a few goals. Newcastle’s defence has been notably tough to penetrate at times in this campaign, with the side recording eight clean sheets at St James Park so far.
Yet that defensive robustness has weakened in recent months. The Mags have prevented the opposition from scoring in just one of their last seven home games.
The safe bet would seem to be BTTS at 8/13. Or you could combine it with Over 2.5 goals in a double at 9/10, or add Callum Wilson to score to make a treble at 9/4. Wilson has found the net ten times in his last nine league games, including two penalties against Leeds last time out.
