Premier League preview: Saturday’s action including Man Utd vs Spurs
Man Utd vs Spurs is the standout game in Saturday’s Premier League fixtures. But there’s also action from Brighton vs Liverpool and Brentford vs Burnley.
Brighton vs Liverpool
After four straight defeats in a row, Brighton’s season might be unravelling. Under the circumstances, imminent meetings with Man City and a resurgent Tottenham will make grim reading for Seagulls fans.
In Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off, Graham Potter’s side host a Liverpool team that suffered a rare but inconsequential defeat in the Champions League last time out. That blip aside, Liverpool have won their last seven league matches.
Klopp’s side haven’t managed a win against Brighton in three attempts, though. Surprisingly, Brighton won at Anfield last season, that result bookended by two draws.
Potter’s side currently seem ill-equipped to add to that sequence, though. Before Lewis Dunk’s consolation against Newcastle last week, Brighton had gone four matches without even scoring.
The Merseyside team have kept clean sheets in four of their last five Premier League games too. Backing Liverpool to win to nil at 17/10 could be a good shout.
Brentford vs Burnley
The Bees might have finally secured a win against Norwich last week, but this nonetheless feels like a great opportunity for Burnley to take three points. The Clarets could haul themselves out of the relegation zone with a win here (and leave Everton in the bottom three).
Sean Dyche’s side are unbeaten in their last three away games in the Prem, holding Palace and Arsenal to draws and beating Brighton 3-0. Meanwhile, Brentford have been turned over in three of their last four home games.
Burnley wins on the road (or at all) have been a rarity this season, but the Clarets beat this team 3-1 at Turf Moor back in October. In fact, for what it’s worth, Burnley have won their last five meetings with this side, dating back to 2000.
Burnley are 27/10 to win. Wout Weghorst is 13/5 to score at any time.
Man Utd vs Tottenham
After the pundits lined up to lament Manchester United’s failings following last weekend’s sorry defeat to Man City, will Ralf Rangnick’s team deliver a fitting reaction here?
Tottenham have been erratic, but convincing wins against Everton and Leeds and an away win over Man City last month at least show that when Conte’s side do get it right, they can truly turn on the style.
With discontent continuing to swirl around Old Trafford, it’s got to be worth taking on the hosts. Tottenham are 49/20 to win this one – and last time they visited this ground, they put six past what was then Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.
We probably won’t see quite such a Manchester meltdown here. But five of Spurs’ last eight league matches have featured at least four goals. You can get 9/5 on over 3.5 goals.
