Premier League preview: Saturday’s action including Wolves vs Arsenal
Luton vs Brentford
Luton have taken four points from their last two home fixtures – a draw against Forest and a win over Bournemouth. Can the Hatters get something against a Brentford side that have picked up a bit of momentum themselves recently?
The hosts don’t have a great record against this opposition, losing six of their last seven league meetings; last time they met at Kenilworth Road, back in 2020, the Bees won 3-0.
More generally, neither side are in especially formidable shape; Luton’s win over Bournemouth is their only victory in their last 12 matches. Brentford won last time out against Sheffield United, but that was their first victory in 10 matches.
While both sides show battling qualities, Brentford may edge out the Hatters here; after all, that’s essentially been the story of Luton’s season, Rob Edwards’ side putting in committed performances but ultimately for little reward.
The hosts’ injury problems continue too. The Bees seem to have eased clear of relegation concerns, and may well be able to take all three points at 23/20.
Sheffield United vs Burnley
The Blades are still looking for their first home win of 2024, which isn’t ideal. Chris Wilder’s side have drawn their last two at Bramall Lane though, so against fellow relegation candidates Burnley, maybe the hosts can give the home fans something to cheer?
Perhaps, but Burnley have only lost once in their last six outings, which is a good run by the Clarets’ standards. This could well turn out to be another game where – unhelpfully for either side – the spoils are divided. Back the draw at 13/5.
Wolves vs Arsenal
Could Gary O’Neil’s side capitalise on Arsenal’s recent disappointments? Having lost ground in the title race with defeat to Villa a week ago, the Gunners suffered another bitter failure midweek, Bayern Munich besting them in a Champions League quarter-final encounter.
It’s amazing how quickly a campaign can become derailed; the Gunners had gone unbeaten in 2024 in the Prem until last weekend. Yet back-to-back defeats have once again called into question the side’s ability to perform under high pressure scenarios.
The north London side haven’t been able to score in their last two matches. And Wolves have performed better than expected under O’Neil, even if they’ve only won one of their last six league games.
For all that, it wouldn’t be a shock if they can seize on the opportunity to take advantage of the Gunners’ low mood. Backing Wolves or the Draw in the double chance market is a 39/20 shot that could work out.
