Premier League preview: Sunday’s action
Arsenal vs Nottingham Forest
Will Arsenal still top the league table after this weekend? If Man City win and the Gunners don’t, Pep Guardiola’s side will move ahead of the north London team.
And the last week has already seen Mikel Arteta’s side endure setbacks, drawing to Southampton and then losing to PSV Eindhoven in the Europa League.
A visit from Nottingham Forest could be timely tonic for Arsenal, even after the Tricky Trees edged out Liverpool last week.
That was a magnificent result for Forest and testament to the side’s spirit, after an eight-game stretch where they’d failed to pick up a single win.
Steve Cooper’s team have tightened up at the back and the win over Liverpool will give them belief; who knows, maybe they’re meeting Arsenal at the right time, just as they’re experiencing a wobble. And when these two sides met in the FA Cup back in January, Forest won…
Even so, at the Emirates Arsenal will likely produce a more resolute effort. The Gunners have won their every home game in this campaign; surely they’re not already running out of steam. It seems much more narratively on brand for them to run out of steam towards the end of the season, just as the support are really starting to believe.
In any case, Forest have kept it tight in recent games but neither Wolves nor Brighton have a particular pedigree for scoring hatfuls of goals. Even Liverpool have been off the pace in that department this season.
More to the point, Forest have scored just one goal away from the City Ground in their entire campaign. Arsenal to win to nil is a 41/50 shot.
Man Utd vs West Ham
West Ham haven’t won an away game since August in the Prem, and Man Utd have looked very solid at Old Trafford in recent outings, turning over Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal.
The hosts have won their last couple of league games at Old Trafford by the only goal of the game over the Irons. And Ten Hag’s United seem averse to flashiness, despite Antony’s best attempts to liven things up earlier this week.
The hosts could be satisfied simply getting the job done, rather than doling out a drubbing. Combine Man United to win and under 3.5 goals in a double at 29/20.
