Premier League preview: Sunday’s action including Arsenal vs Man Utd
Leeds vs Brentford
Leeds thumped Cardiff 5-2 in the Cup earlier this week. That’s a rare spot of respite for Jesse Marsch, whose side are still looking for a first league win since November.
On the face of it, Brentford would not seem ideal opponents for Jesse’s giants to nab a victory. The Bees have gone seven games unbeaten in the Prem; that run includes away wins over West Ham – fair enough – and Man City.
And Leeds have lost three of their last five at home. Even when they defeated Bournemouth, their only home win in seven attempts, the Yorkshire side still conceded three times. Backing Brentford to win at 9/5 makes sense, then…
Man City vs Wolves
Pep Guardiola might be perturbed by his side’s performances in recent weeks. But City still looked like they had plenty of desire as they fought back to win after going 2-0 down to Tottenham on Thursday.
City scored four second half goals to beat Tottenham and narrow Arsenal’s lead to five points. The Manchester side might not be firing on all cylinders, but get them riled and they can still put in a shift.
Julen Lopetegui will hope to frustrate City for as long as possible. But after Pep’s impassioned plea for his players to show more desire, even Wolves at their most obdurate will surely struggle to keep the hosts at bay.
No-one is immune to Guardiola’s whims/tactics, with Kevin de Bruyne dropped/rested against Tottenham. But Riyad Mahrez has four goals in his last two appearances at the Etihad. Assuming he starts on Sunday, odds of 2/1 to score at any time look tempting.
Arsenal vs Man Utd
Talk of a Man Utd title tilt took a bit of a knock earlier this week, as Erik ten Hag’s team were held to a draw by Crystal Palace thanks to a late free kick from Michael Olise.
If the result was enough to have Ten Hag sorrowfully shaking his head, there’s more. The excellent Casemiro received a yellow card that rules him out of the trip to the Emirates. Big Cass sitting this one out certainly doesn’t help United’s cause.
Of course, Man Utd are the only team to beat the Gunners so far in the Prem this season. That might suggest that Erik’s figured out a way to get the better of this side – or it might just mean Arsenal will be determined not to get caught out again.
With Arteta’s side continuing to look a formidable opponent, there’s every chance they can come through this latest challenge in convincing fashion. But United have scored in each of their last 10 league matches, and may be able to at least find the net.
In six of Arsenal’s eight home games in the Prem this season, both teams have scored, too. So Arsenal to win and BTTS in a double at 49/20 could be worth a try.
