Premier League preview: Sunday’s action including Man City vs Chelsea
West Ham vs Leeds
After making it to the final of the Europa Conference League with their win against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday, will West Ham’s focus waver for this one?
The jubilant Irons may be in the mood to put on a show at the London stadium, against former manager Sam Allardyce no less. But with Leeds fighting tooth and nail for Premier League survival, perhaps Sam can earn his first win in charge of the Yorkshire side.
Leeds haven’t tasted victory in seven league games, but they did hold Newcastle to a draw last week. Meanwhile, West Ham have lost four of their last five league games, even if they did win their last home game, against Man Utd.
What’s for sure is that in each of Leeds’ last 11 matches each side has found the net, so BTTS at 4/6 looks like it has a decent chance of paying off. Alternatively, you could back Patrick Bamford to have over 2.5 shots at 59/50. The Leeds striker might have missed a penalty last week, but he’s taken six shots in his last two matches.
Brighton vs Southampton
It’s definitely win some, lose some backing this Brighton side. The Seagulls ended Arsenal’s title hopes a week ago – then followed that up with a shoeing from Newcastle.
You’d think that means the side will go to town on Southampton. But we can’t help remembering Everton winning at the Amex 5-1 a few weeks back.
Even with that unexpected result in mind though, it’s hard to expect much from this already-relegated Saints side. Their last three away games have seen a total of 17 goals scored. And there’s every chance Roberto De Zerbi’s side can give the home crowd plenty to cheer on Sunday. Over 3.5 goals is a 19/20 shot.
Man City vs Chelsea
Chelsea’s modest unbeaten run – a win against Bournemouth, a draw against Forest – will presumably end on Sunday.
Depending on how Arsenal fared against Forest a day earlier, Pep Guardiola’s team may already have officially retained the Premier League title. But even should the Gunners beat the Tricky Trees, City can still win the title at the Etihad this weekend by defeating the Blues. It’s tough to see any other outcome.
City blew Real Madrid away in the Champions League earlier this week. And the Manchester side have won every game they’ve played at home so far in 2023. Backing City to win and BTTS No in a double at 17/20 seems a fair shout; if you want something with a touch more pizzazz, Haaland to seal the title with a brace is a 37/20 shot.
The Norwegian has only scored once in his last four games, so by his standards he’s due. He’s also scored two or more goals in 13 matches for City this season…
