Premier League preview: Sunday’s action including Man Utd vs Man City

West Ham vs Everton

It’s been a tough week for the Toffees – will things improve at the London Stadium on Sunday?

Club chairman Bill Kenwright sadly passed away earlier this week; that event was swiftly followed by the news that the Premier League has recommended that Everton should be docked 12 points for a breach of Financial Fair Play rules.

It’s not out of the question that these setbacks can put a bit of fire in Sean Dyche’s belly – but are Everton set to rage against the prospective dying of the light, or simply fizzle out against West Ham?

David Moyes built his reputation at Everton of course. It’s hardly been plain sailing for the Scot since he left, but West Ham have enjoyed a renaissance under Moyesey in recent months.

The last few results have been less pleasing, however; the Irons lost to Villa 4-1 last time out, and warmed up for this one with a sluggish European performance away to Olympiacos.

Everton could prove defiant here; the visitors are 5/2 to nick the win against opposition that might be a tad weary after Thursday’s trip to Greece.

Aston Villa vs Luton

Villa are immense at home; Luton succeeding where, say, Brighton failed seems improbable.

Unai Emery’s team have scored 17 goals in their four home league games to date, so backing over 3.5 goals at 5/4 could pay off.

Brighton vs Fulham

We’re so wrapped up in the narrative of Brighton’s excellence under Roberto De Zerbi, it’s slightly surprising to note that the Seagulls have won just one of their last six games.

It’s not exactly time to press the panic button, admittedly. Brighton eased to victory over Ajax on Thursday night, and in the Premier League, their last three outings have included defeats to Aston Villa and Man City, plus a draw against Liverpool.

Still, Seagulls supporters will be looking at the fixture schedule with relief, following that recent challenging run. On paper, Fulham should pose less of a threat. But what’s this? The Cottagers beat Brighton home and away last season? Whaaa?

In fact, Brighton have played Fulham six times in the Premier League, without earning a single win.

Will Sunday’s encounter mark the end of that run? The traders certainly fancy a home victory, with Brighton huge odds-on favs to break their hoodoo against the Cottagers.

Let’s hope Ansu Fati can get some game time for the hosts; he’s scored in his last two matches, and is 9/5 to find the net once more here.

Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest

Liverpool seem to be back to something like their best; they’ve won all their games at Anfield so far this season, beating Tolouse 5-1 in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Forest have enjoyed some success against Jurgen Klopp since returning to the Prem, earning victory at the City Ground last year, and fighting hard in a 3-2 Liverpool home win back in April.

Less encouragingly, you have to go back to 1969 for the last time Forest actually won at Anfield.

And current form isn’t outstanding, with the Tricky Trees drawing blanks in their last two away games in the Prem. Forest also let Luton back into the game a week ago when victory seemed assured at 2-0 with 10 minutes remaining.

With Forest’s most prolific scorer Taiwo Awoniyi injured, the visitors could struggle to land a blow against Liverpool. Meanwhile Mo Salah remains as reliable as ever for the hosts – he’s scored in every league game at Anfield this season. Salah is 13/5 to find the opener here.

Man Utd vs Man City

After suffering three defeats in four games not long ago, Man City may be back on track now. For Man United, the problems seem to go much deeper.

True, Erik ten Hag’s side have been winning again themselves. But the nature of those victories hasn’t necessarily convinced anyone that United are flourishing.

In this fixture last season, the Red Devils put in a committed performance to take a 2-1 victory. Maybe the big occasion can rouse them once more, but in their last few games United have laboured against the likes of Copenhagen and Sheffield United.

In fact, United have been losing at half-time at home this season to Forest, Brighton, Palace, and Brentford. Man City to be winning at half-time and full-time is available at 29/20, and looks a solid possibility.
