Premier League preview: Sunday’s action including the Manchester derby
Man City vs Man Utd
City’s three home games in the Prem so far this campaign have seen them score 14 goals, with Erling Haaland notching up a couple of hat-tricks along the way.
Pep Guardiola’s side haven’t quite had everything their way; back in August, Crystal Palace were 2-0 up at the Etihad after 20 minutes. But City fought back to win 4-2.
As for Man Utd, their status as the Prem’s early crisis club has eased, Erik ten Hag’s side winning four straight wins in the Prem. So can Erik the Red continue that run against a City side that have already dropped points (on the road) to Villa and Newcastle?
United’s recent record at the Etihad is encouraging, the Red Devils winning twice in their last three league visits. A word of caution though – they did lose 4-1 back in March.
So is a rollicking away victory a possibility, injecting fresh excitement into the title race? Or is Erling Haaland set to add to his extraordinary haul?
Ten Hag has already seen his side win two away games 1-0 in this campaign. The Dutchman would be delighted with a similarly unshowy display here. That almost certainly means subduing City’s pitiless goal machine, though; it would be a novel experience indeed for City to come up short on chances to score.
In the end, even with United looking a tougher nut to crack, it’s hard to look past Haaland – and the home win. The visitors can at least find the net though; they’ve done so in each of their last five league visits here.
Back Both Teams To Score, Man City to win and Haaland to score at 12/5 in 32Red’s Pre-pack market.
Leeds vs Aston Villa
Many onlookers were predicting the worst for Steven Gerrard’s side last time out, but Villa earned a hard-fought win over Southampton. Can the former Rangers coach maintain the positive mood as his side travels to Elland Road this week?
Perhaps not. Leeds are unbeaten at home in their three league games this campaign – a run that includes an eye-catching 3-0 over Chelsea. Jesse Marsch is definitely winning hearts and minds in his bid to appeal to Leeds support still missing their eccentric former coach Marcelo Bielsa.
The West Yorkshire side are 27/20 for the outright win, and Villa haven’t taken a point on the road yet this season. The hosts look like a good thing to land another victory on Sunday.
