Premier League preview: Thursday’s action including Spurs vs Man Utd

Everton vs Newcastle

Newcastle smashed six goals past Tottenham at the weekend – five of those coming within the first 21 minutes.

And Sean Dyche’s Everton have struggled for clean sheets at Goodison in recent weeks. Spurs scored for a draw, and Fulham fired three goals past Jordan Pickford a few weeks back.

The Toffees are in the drop zone and could use something from this game. But the Magpies look to be finishing the season in style. They may have too much for Dyche’s beleaguered side, without a win in five games.

Back Newcastle to win and Isak to score in a double at 2/1.

Southampton vs Bournemouth

The Saints are winless in seven games, even if they put in an encouraging performance against Arsenal last time out. The game ended 3-3, but the Saints ability to score twice in the opening 15 minutes shows that Ruben Selles’ side hasn’t given up hope.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth have won four of their last seven games, which hardly seems like relegation form. Losing 4-0 at home to West Ham in brutal fashion at the weekend raises a few alarm bells, however.

The outcome doesn’t seem certain here, but maybe goals are a better bet. Over 2.5 goals is a 21/20 shot, which would have paid out in the last three meetings between these teams at St Mary’s.

Spurs vs Man Utd

Spurs have sacked interim manager Cristian Stellini in the wake of that jaw-dropping 6-1 defeat away to Newcastle. Will Ryan Mason, who was working with Stellini before his dismissal, be able to give Tottenham supporters something to cheer as they welcome Man Utd to north London?

United shook off a shock 3-0 defeat to Sevilla in the Europa League by edging out Brighton in a penalty shootout in an FA Cup semi-final at the weekend. In the Prem though, United have won three without conceding a goal.

So will Tottenham offer an improved performance here, after defeat at St James’ Park saw the club offer travelling fans refunds? Spurs haven’t won any of United’s last four visits to the Tottenham stadium, losing 3-0 and 3-1 in the last two seasons.

But with Spurs keen to establish some kind of normality after the awful mayhem of the weekend, they should at least be able to find the net against United – they’ve done so in their last six league games, after all. This one could end with both teams settling for a point; the draw is a 13/5 shot.
