Premier League preview: Tuesday’s action including Chelsea vs Liverpool
Bournemouth vs Brighton
In their last two home games Bournemouth have got the better of Liverpool and Fulham. Can they see off a Brighton side that needed a last-minute penalty to take a point against Brentford at the weekend?
The Seagulls have been largely excellent and showed determination in fighting back to earn a point against Thomas Frank’s side at the weekend. Still, calling this one is a challenge; Brighton have drawn their last three away games, while the Cherries have shown tenacity in recent weeks.
With Bournemouth netting in their last six home games in all comps, and Brighton certain to be lively, BTTS at 22/25 looks reasonable.
Leeds vs Nottingham Forest
Forest are on a seven-game winless streak, and have only won one away game all season, against Southampton. Steve Cooper’s men have lost their last three on the road, too.
Leeds were overpowered by Arsenal on Saturday but scored four away against Wolves prior to that, and will surely view this as a highly winnable game. And with Forest so lacking in goal threat on the road, Leeds might be able to get the job done without conceding a goal. Backing Leeds to win and BTTS No in a double gets you 33/20.
Leicester vs Aston Villa
Will Brendan Rodgers’ exit see an upturn in Leicester’s fortunes? The Foxes have slipped into the relegation zone; first team coach Adam Sadler and goalkeeping coach Mike Stowell are set to take charge against Villa.
It’s a tough gig for the caretaker duo. Leicester have won just two league games in 2023, losing six of their last seven matches in all comps. As for Villa, they’ve won four of their last five, conceding one goal in that run. It was the Midlands side who inflicted defeat on Chelsea this weekend, ending Graham Potter’s spell in charge.
With an ageing team and a seeming inability or unwillingness to spend on new players Leicester’s problems go deeper than Rodgers. And Unai Emery’s chances of claiming another victory on Tuesday look pretty good. Back Villa to win at 37/20.
Chelsea vs Liverpool
Yes, Graham Potter’s reign of error is over. But as Jurgen Klopp pointed out on Monday, judged on this season’s results the Liverpool manager might have found himself jobless by this point of the season too.
With neither of these sides offering much reliability when it comes to results, maybe backing a straightforward BTTS No is the sound approach. That bet would have paid out in nine of Liverpool’s last 10 games in all comps. And 15 of Chelsea’s last 20 games across all competitions have also seen both teams fail to score – including nine of their last 10 home games. BTTS No is 11/10.
