Premier League preview: Wednesday’s action including Everton vs Man City
Brentford vs Wolves
A little surprisingly, Thomas Frank’s side have lost five of their last six matches. Does a visit from Wolves offer more pain for the Bees, or the prospect to pick up some points?
The Wanderers aren’t renowned for their excellence on the road, having lost their last four away league games – including to Sheffield United, prior to Chris Wilder’s return.
But Wolves do have a good recent record at the Gtech, going unbeaten in their last four visits. With Gary O’Neil’s side also having just beaten Chelsea, there may well be plenty of positivity surrounding the visitors.
You can take a chance on Wolves adding to Brentford’s recent woes by backing them to win at 27/10. Or you could plump for Matheus Cunha to continue his decent run; he’s scored four goals in his last seven away games in the Prem. Cunha is 3/1 to find the net.
Chelsea vs Crystal Palace
Chelsea slumped to a dispiriting 2-1 loss away to Wolves on Christmas Eve, but at least Christopher Nkunku was a bright spark for the Blues, scoring on his league debut.
Nkunku was prolific for RB Leipzig last season and may be the goalscorer Chelsea have been crying out for. Poch’s side have won their last two at home in the Prem too.
You can never take anything for granted with the West London side at the moment, but Nkunku may be able to give the home fans something to cheer on Wednesday night. Nkunku is 27/20 to find the net against the Eagles.
Everton vs Man City
Man City may be Club World Cup champions, but back in the Premier League Pep Guardiola’s side have embarked on a poor run, at least by their standards.
City have won just one of their last six league matches. Everton wouldn’t normally be the kind of team to strike fear into the all-conquering titans of Manchester, but the Citizens did find themselves held to a draw by Crystal Palace at the Etihad last time out.
Maybe I’m giving Everton too much credit, but Sean Dyche is generally doing a good job at Goodison Park, the side winning four of their last five league games. That run includes victories over Chelsea and Newcastle.
Then again, City are a tougher proposition. The Toffees have won just one of their last 20 meetings with the Manchester side, with City winning their last six visits to Goodison.
Still, now might just be a good time to face Pep’s side. If you want to roll the dice, you can back Everton or the draw at 6/4 in the Double Chance market.
