Premier League preview: West Ham vs Bournemouth, Wolves vs Man Utd
West Ham vs Bournemouth
It’s not been an auspicious start to 2024 for West Ham; David Moyes’ side are yet to win a game this year, and were knocked out of the FA Cup by Bristol City earlier this month.
For all that, the Irons are still sixth in the Prem; now they look to impress against a team that have proven they can get the job done on the road. In December, Andoni Iraola’s side were victorious in three away games on the bounce against Crystal Palace, Man Utd and Nottingham Forest.
The Cherries’ last two league games have ended in defeat, though losses to Spurs and Liverpool are hardly unforgivable.
West Ham have bolstered their squad with the loan signing of Kalvin Phillips, though Moyes wouldn’t commit when asked if the former Man City man will figure against Bournemouth. The excellent Mo Kudus has returned from AFCON, and may also play on Thursday.
This could be tight – but with West Ham losing just one of their past 10 league games, it might be worth siding with the hosts to land that first victory of the year. West Ham are 29/20 to win.
Wolves vs Man Utd
It’s been another week where Erik ten Hag has been facing scrutiny from the media. One reporter asking the Dutchman if his players respected him, after Marcus Rashford chose to fly to Belfast to attend a nightclub, then called in sick the next day.
With constant clamour surrounding the Red Devils, winning football matches is the only way to stop the sniping. In their last four away games in the Prem, though, Man Utd have scored just one goal.
Rashford himself is not having a good season, but had looked sharper in recent games, scoring in his last two league appearances. Will recent developments affect his progress, or can he return in style here? Or will Gary O’Neil’s Wolves add to Ten Hag’s troubles on Thursday night?
Whatever the result, with United struggling for away goals maybe it’s better to focus on the unders. Particularly since the last 10 meetings between these sides have seen a total of just 11 goals scored. Under 2.5 goals is a 19/20 shot.
