Premier League preview: West Ham vs Brentford
On the face of it, a home game against a team placed 16th in the Prem offers a prime opportunity for West Ham to end their current losing run.
The Irons have now gone eight games in all competitions without a win; David Moyes’ side have lost their last three Premier League matches without scoring a goal.
Thomas Frank’s team aren’t exactly in rude health right now, either. But Brentford do have cause for some belief as they go into Monday night’s game.
The Bees have played West Ham five times in the Premier League – and won on every occasion. King Bees in a frenzy, then – but can they continue that perfect record at the London Stadium on Monday night?
More recently the Bees have lost four of their last five league games – but those defeats came against Spurs, Liverpool, and Man City twice.
During that unforgiving run, Brentford also travelled to Molineux and got a 2-0 win against Wolves. Meanwhile, Ivan Toney has played six games since his return – and scored four goals.
Brentford are in better shape than their recent record suggest, then – while West Ham really do look to be there for the taking.
One spot of good news for the hosts is that Lucas Paqueta could return here; otherwise, the West Ham squad is fully fit, though Kalvin Phillips is suspended.
If Paqueta is involved, will he be able to make his influence felt immediately? Perhaps. But with the hosts in such poor form, backing Brentford to win at 2/1 still looks appealing.
It’s not hard to fancy Toney to pop up on the scoresheet again here, either. Toney is 23/20 to find the net.
