Saudi club Al Hilal make €300m bid for Kylian Mbappé
Even in the exorbitant world of elite football transfers, this one’s remarkable. The Saudi Arabian club have reportedly submitted a bid of £259m – which would be a record fee – to Paris Saint-Germain for Kylian Mbappé.
Mbappé would receive a €700million salary
The Ligue 1 club left Mbappé out of their pre-season tour of Japan, and have suggested the player will be sold this summer if he’s unwilling to extend his contract with PSG. Mbappé has previously been linked with a move to Real Madrid.
But bizarre as it sounds, this arrangement could suit all concerned. It’s been suggested that the contract would be for a one-season deal, allowing Mbappé to return to European football after a season-long stint in the Saudi Professional League.
Of course, Al Hilal would also be happy to tie Mbappe to a longer contract, if the 24-year-old was willing to commit.
The suggestion is that for a one-year contract, Mbappé would receive a €700million salary – a figure that works out at around €13.4m a week.
In all, the salary and transfer fee would amount to a billion euros to secure Mbappé’s services for a year.
Al Hilal are the most successful club in the history of Saudi Arabian football, with 18 Pro League titles.
This summer the club have already signed Ruben Neves and Kalidou Koulibaly. Al Hilal have also been linked with a move for Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Al Hilal are owned by the Public Investment Fund, the Saudi wealth fund that operate Premier League side Newcastle, and established the LIV golf tour.
