Wardley vs Huni: Expect fireworks as Portman Road explodes!
The always unpredictable heavyweight roadshow rolls into Ipswich on Saturday night.
England’s Fabio Wardley (18-0-1, 17 KOs) and Australia’s Justis Huni (12-0, 7 KOs) will meet under the floodlights at Portman Road, the home of Ipswich Town Football Club. For all the latest fight odds, visit our sportsbook.
The two will be fighting for the WBA interim heavyweight title and all of the pieces are in place for an intriguing, exciting clash.
The unbeaten pair have taken entirely different routes to reach this point. Huni spent his teenage years in the gym and became a highly ranked amateur. In 2019 he won the bronze medal at the exceptionally tough World Championships and has slowly but surely accumulated twelve wins since turning professional almost five years ago.
In contrast, Wardley didn’t pull on a pair of boxing gloves until he was 20 years old and he threw his first real punches on the white collar circuit.
If you believe that the vast gap in amateur experience will be too much for Wardley to bridge, a Huni victory is available at 12-5 at 32Red.com.
Wardley, however, has made great strides and his rise into world title contention is one of the most remarkable stories in heavyweight boxing.

Raw but explosive, 30 year-old Wardley became English heavyweight champion by knocking out former Commonwealth Games gold medallist Simon Vallily in 2020. Two years later he became the British champion by stopping Nathan Gorman and, last year, he engaged in a thrilling rivalry with Olympic bronze medallist, Frazer Clarke. In March, the pair engaged in an unforgettable back and forth war which the ringside judges ruled a draw.
The rematch lasted less than a round. A brutal Wardley right hand finishing Clarke in frightening fashion.
Wardley’s violent wins over Vallily and Clarke show that he can deal with elite amateurs. If you think he can handle Huni in similar fashion, a Wardley knockout win is priced at 4/5.

Huni will be aware of Wardley’s power and finishing ability. The 26 year-old is a smart fighter and with so much at stake, he will be vary wary about playing into Wardley’s hands and giving the local man any early openings.
Although Huni is capable of standing up close and letting his hands go in combination, he may well decide to use his skill and speed to draw Wardley’s sting in the early rounds before asserting himself more and more as the rounds pass.
Wardley has proven that he has a solid chin and an iron will but has never chase down a clever, constantly moving target with the ability to pick the correct, clean punches.
Huni has yet to complete twelve rounds but if he can negotiate an inevitable early storm, he may well find his rhythm over the second half of the fight. A Huni decision win is priced at 23-5.
With around 20,000 fans backing him, Wardley is highly unlikely to dance to Huni’s tune. He is aggressive and an instinctive fighter. Wardley has been hurt in the past but has never shrank away from a fight, instead he bites down on his mouthpiece and ratchets up the intensity.
If he feels like Huni is beginning to gain self-belief and rack up rounds, Wardley will go to war but it seems likely that he will try to make a quick start and shatter the visitor’s confidence as quickly as possible.
Wardley is a destructive puncher and 17 or his 18 wins have come inside the distance. He is more than capable of bringing a fight to a swift, violent finish.
If you think Huni will become the Ipswich man’s latest victim, a quick Wardley win between rounds one and three is priced at 17-2.
