Zelfa Barrett exclusive on Fury vs Usyk: Tyson has a point to prove

Zelfa Barrett exclusive on Fury vs Usyk: Tyson has a point to prove

32Red ambassador, Zelfa Barrett, got straight back to the grind after beating Jordan Gill last month.

The world class super featherweight headlined Manchester’s AO Arena for the first time and sent his friends and fans home happy after stopping the former European featherweight champion in the tenth round.

“Fury looks like he’s in shape”

Fury vs Whyte predictions

Barrett doesn’t like taking days off and was quickly back in the gym perfecting his craft whilst he waits for his next fight to be confirmed.

Like boxing fans around the world, Barrett’s attention is currently in Saudi Arabia and this weekend’s undisputed heavyweight title fight between WBC champion, Tyson Fury, and WBA, IBF & WBO champion, Oleksandr Usyk. For the latest fight odds, visit our sportsbook.

A younger Fury spent time training at Barrett’s Collyhurst and Moston gym where his abilities are well known.

‘The Gypsy King’ is a uniquely gifted heavyweight talent but was a shadow of himself last October when he scraped past MMA champion but boxing novice, Francis Ngannou.

Having been held up as the greatest heavyweight on the planet after his trilogy of fights with Deontay Wilder, Fury was suddenly written off as busted flush. Barrett believes that the criticism he received for that performance coupled with the abuse he was subjected to for withdrawing from the initial February 17th date with Usyk due to a badly cut eye will ensure that he turns up in Saudi Arabia in prime physical condition and, more importantly, mentally switched on.

“I think Fury will turn southpaw”

Barrett sees only one winner.

“Fury. Fury all day. He’s not getting beaten,” Barrett told 32Red.

“He look’s like he’s in shape. I think he’s gonna box his head off. I don’t think he’ll wanna get close to him. Usyk will wanna get in, Fury’s massive isn’t he? Usyk’s big now though so if he tries to get in and out, he might get caught on the way out.

“Long jab, right hand straight down the pipe, back to the long jab. I think he [Fury] will turn southpaw with him. I think he can hurt him.

“Fury has a point to prove. People have been talking bad about him. Even when he had to pull out from the fight with the cut. One thing you don’t do is piss Fury off. He’s got a point to prove now and when he has a point to prove he’s dangerous. Look what he did to Wilder. He went through him like a steam train. I’ve got a feeling he can do the same here.”
