Game Features: Symbols, paylines
The Eye of Horus slot plays on a 5×3 grid with 10 fixed paylines. Its symbols include higher-paying Egyptian-themed characters, lower-paying card icons, and two special symbols: Wilds and Scatters. We explain the special symbols in detail in this Eye of Horus slot review.
Slot Mechanics
The Eye of Horus doesn’t have too many extra features or complicated mechanics, so it’s easy to understand and begin playing. Its only special features include Scatters, expanding Wilds, and a bonus spins round.
Scatters
The Tomb symbol represents scatters in the Eye of Horus. Our Eye of Horus slot review discovered that they mainly activate the bonus spins round and function as regular symbols, offering a 500x max payout. Unlike the other symbols that need to land on a payline to win, Scatters pay from anywhere.
Expanding Wilds
Horus Wilds substitute for all other symbols except the Scatters – note that more than one can land during a spin. Every time they appear, they expand to cover the entire reel, increasing the chances of forming multiple winning combinations. They have a couple of extra functions when they land during the Bonus Spins Round, as explained below in this Eye of Horus slot review.
Bonus Spins Round
The Bonus Spins Round is activated by landing three or more Scatters anywhere on the reels to collect 12 free spins. You can increase them indefinitely through the Horus Wilds. Landing 1, 2, or 3 Wilds increases the number of spins by 1, 3, and 5, respectively. The Tomb symbol is disabled during the bonus, but the Horus Wild can deliver extra spins.
The highlight of this feature is the tablets displayed above the reels. Whenever an expanding Wild appears, it upgrades the symbols in a tablet, transforming them one by one from lower-paying to higher-paying symbols, excluding the royals (A, K, Q, J). You only need to land 6 Wilds during this feature to play with the highest-paying Eye of Horus and royalty symbols only.

The slot is characterised by medium to high volatility, meaning wins are infrequent, but can be substantial when they occur.

The Eye of Horus’ maximum win is a staggering 50,000x the stake. It’s significantly higher than that of most online slots, but it matches the high symbol multipliers. Here are the payouts to expect for landing 3, 4, or 5 paying symbols on a bet line:

Audiovisuals
Eye of Horus’ audiovisuals are not as bold or rich as those in most modern video slots. The slot uses basic artwork to depict the card symbols and Egypt-themed icons on a rather plain grid and background. During our Eye of Horus slot review, we found that it lacks the level of detail found in almost all Blueprint Gaming games.
The sound effects don’t connect to the theme either. Instead of a Middle Eastern tune with flutes, strings, and percussion, it uses slot-machine sounds reminiscent of old land-based casino machines. A themed soundtrack would do a much better job of immersing players in the world of ancient Egypt.
Our Rating
After a comprehensive Eye of Horus slot review, the game earned a 71 out of 100 rating. Here’s how it performs across the key metrics we used to rate it.
Gameplay excitement (12/20)
Eye of Horus doesn’t try to appeal to players with flashy visuals and complex mechanics. It focuses on simplicity, offering a simple design and layout without too many bonus features. As we discussed in our Eye of Horus slot review, it may not be the most exciting game if you’re in it for the audiovisuals.
Its medium-high volatility means it generally takes several spins to land any win. While the bonus round triggers often and is exciting due to the symbol-upgrade feature, the game can feel too dry or boring before you activate it.
Bonus features quality (13/20)
The only difference between Eye of Horus’ bonus feature and the base game is the symbol upgrade feature. There are no multipliers, stacked wilds, cascading reels, or other engaging elements that enhance the bonus.
Our Eye of Horus slot review team agreed that the bonus is rewarding and builds tension as the Wilds appear to upgrade the symbols. However, since it doesn’t feel any different from other slots bonuses, it earned a 13 out of 20 in this metric.
Winning potential (10/15)
Eye of Horus has 10 paylines and medium-high volatility, which means gameplay can feature longer quiet spells and smaller payouts in the base game, with the bonus spins tending to offer higher-value symbol combinations.
The 50,000x max win is at the higher end of what the game’s mechanics can produce. To reach it, players would need to activate the bonus round, land six Wilds to upgrade all symbols, and retrigger the round multiple times. Rising multipliers would have made this outcome more accessible.
Volatility balance (13/15)
During our Eye of Horus slot review, we landed small wins across some spins and a decent payout when we got more than one Wild in one spin. However, while the wins could be more frequent, they are not as rare as in high-volatility slots or as small as in low-volatility slots.
Our balance kept dwindling in the base game, but the bonus round produced higher returns, sometimes paying over 100x the stake. Please remember that slots are games of chance and past results never reflect future outcomes.
Theme and design (5/10)
Our Eye of Horus slot review revealed that this game is not like other ancient Egypt-themed slots. Instead of immersive 3D graphics, it adorns the popular theme with a basic artwork design that lacks the usual Blueprint gaming details.
You might quickly get used to the visuals and even appreciate their simplicity, but the odd soundtrack may feel out of place. Its arcade-game-style melody doesn’t quite match the theme or immerse players into the action.
Nonetheless, judging by the number of clones the Eye of Horus inspired, its gameplay is good enough to overlook the theme and design.
Replay value (8/10)
Eye of Horus has been popular for over a decade now, so it’s clear that players love it. The graphics and sound effects may not be for everyone. Still, the simple design, coupled with the easy bonus features, strikes a balance between simplicity and entertainment that’s enjoyable even after multiple sessions.
User Experience (10/10)
As noted in this Eye of Horus slot review, its quality lies in its simplicity and minimalism. It avoids most of the advanced designs, complex features, and confusing mechanics, so even beginners will find it easy to learn. It is a solid choice for both new and seasoned players.
